Morongo Casino Resort and Spa

Wilhelm Construction & Development was retained by the Morongo Band of Mission Indians to provide services as a general contractor for a variety of projects at their Casino, Spa and Resort property in Cabazon, CA. The largest of these involved conversion of a 24,000 square-foot wing of a former casino building into a state-of-the-art, 24-lane bowling center.

Wilhelm Construction worked in close partnership with the project architect, tribal officials, bowling vendor AMF and a large group of specialty subcontractors to complete the project in accordance with a fast-track schedule. The scope of work included gutting of the existing building shell, modifications to the concrete foundation, and numerous structural and non-structural enhancements. Additions to the building included the bowling lanes, equipment and supporting electronics; a commercial kitchen; a food and beverage service facility; customer service areas, administrative offices, restrooms, and an arcade. The project featured the use of specialized lighting, finishes, and sound equipment to help create a unique and enjoyable bowling experience for customers.

Wilhelm Construction’s involvement on other projects at the Resort included:

Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Offices, San Pedro, California

Wilhelm Construction & Development was retained by Bluefin Properties, LLC to provide services as a building consultant and general contractor for interior and exterior renovation of a 2-story, 20,000 square foot office building in San Pedro, CA. The building was being prepared for occupancy by a new tenant - the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. Wilhelm Construction consulted with the architect on design of the project.

Additions to the building shell included offices, conference rooms, reception areas, restrooms, storage, an employee break room and a kitchen. The existing interior of the building was completely demolished, with special procedures followed due to the presence of asbestos. New walls were constructed, and plumbing, electrical, HVAC and fire suppression equipment installed. Cabinets and countertops, flooring, carpet, and doors and windows were placed. As the County required a turn-key, “ready to work” facility, Wilhelm Construction was responsible for all finish work, installation of cubicles and workstations, installation of wiring for telephony and networking, and ordering and placement of all furniture.

Exterior renovation began with re-roofing of the building. Sandblasting, patching and water-proofing of the exterior walls was performed. All exterior windows and doors were replaced. The building was painted, and new signage installed.

California Baptist University - Campus Bookstore Expansion and Remodel

Wilhelm Construction & Development (WCD) was retained by the Facilities and Planning office of California Baptist University to provide pre-construction and general contractor services for expansion and remodeling of the campus bookstore. The project involved construction of new retail and office space, and changes to existing retail and work areas.

Wilhelm Construction worked in close partnership with the project architect, CBU Facilities and Planning Office, and bookstore management to complete the project under “summer sprint” conditions, when retail activities were at a minimum. Nonetheless, the bookstore was open for business for the duration of the project, and Wilhelm Construction coordinated with bookstore management in order to minimize disruption to the store’s business activities during construction.

The scope of work included demolition, modifications to the concrete foundation, significant structural and non-structural modifications and enhancements, storefronts, installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing components, and finishes.  Wilhelm Construction also coordinated with the University’s IT department and subcontractors for installation of point of sales (POS), networking, computing, surveillance and fire alarm systems.
